Returning Aid Workers Undergoing Ebola Screening

Aid workers returning from areas affected by the Ebola outbreak are being monitored for the disease, the Health Service Executive (HSE) has reported.

Dr Darina O'Flanagan of the HSE's Health Protection Surveillance Centre was reporting to the Oireachtas Joint Committee on Health and Children, that those considered to be of high risk were monitored daily, while those of low risk were self-monitoring.

The committee also heard a recommendation from the Minister for Health Leo Varadkar, that Ireland should "step-up" its preparedness for Ebola, however, he added that there was "no reason to believe" Ireland's emergency services would not be able to cope.
