Coding 'Just As Important' As Mainstream Subjects

Computer coding is now "just as important" for Irish children as maths, science and languages, new research has revealed.

Research, commissioned by telecoms company UPC Ireland and carried out Amarach Research, found that two in three people said that learning computer code is equally as important as learning mainstream subjects such as Business, Geography, Music, History, Art, Irish, Science, Languages, Maths and English.

The survey questioned 1,000 people over the age of 16, with one in three saying that coding is "more important" than Irish, and one in five said it was "more important" that maths.

The research was commissioned as part of Europe Code Week.
