Children's Charity Founder To Stand As Independent In Next Election

Jonathan Irwin, the founder of children's charity the Jack and Jill Foundation, has confirmed that he intends to stand as a candidate in the next General Election.

Mr Irwin has announced his intention to stand as an Independent candidate in the three seat Kildare-South constituency.

The next General Election is expected to take place in 2016.

The 72-year-old made the announcement during the launch of his autobiography at the Merrion Hotel in Dublin on Friday.

General Election Announced For 08 February
Ireland's next General Election will take place on Saturday, 08 February, the Taoiseach Leo Varadkar has announced. The Taoiseach will now go to to Áras an Uachtaráin today to seek a dissolution of the 32nd Dáil from President Michael D Higgins.
