New Facebook HQ Opens In Dublin

Facebook's new EMEA headquarters has been officially opened at Grand Canal Square in Dublin.

Taoiseach Enda Kenny attended the ceremony and was joined by Sonia Flynn, Managing Director of Facebook Ireland.

The HQ building covers around 120,000 sq ft and is situated in the capital's 'Silicon Docks' area. At its Dublin headquarters, the firm currently employs some 500 people.

Taoiseach Enda Kenny said: "As the Government works to secure economic recovery, the continued commitment of Facebook to technology and talent here in Ireland is most welcome.

"The company was one of the first to locate in 'Silicon Docks' in 2009, an area which is today the heartbeat of the technology sector. I have no doubt Facebook will continue to prosper at its new headquarters."

Sonia Flynn, Managing Director, Facebook Ireland added: "This is an exciting day for our 500-strong team in Dublin, as we enter a new chapter at Grand Canal Square. We are proud to be here in Dublin, where we are able to find the talented people we need to enable Facebook to support the people who use it every day."

100 additional jobs are to be created at the Dublin headquarters of social networking giant, Facebook, bringing the company’s total workforce in Ireland to 500. The jobs are already being advertised on the company’s website and cover a range of functions.

Galway Firm To Create 100 New Jobs
A shed manufacturing company is to create 100 new jobs in Tuam, Co Galway. Steeltech Sheds is to relocate its business from Headford Road in Galway to the former Coca-Cola factory in Tuam and will recruit new staff between now and 2017. The company currently employs 100 staff at bases in Cork, Dublin, Carlow and Athlone.

New Multi-Denominational Schools To Open In September
Four new multi-denominational primary schools are to open in September, the Department of Education has announced. Educate Together will run the new schools to be based in counties Dublin, Mayo, Meath, and Waterford.
