DCC Produce Draft Bylaws For City Buskers
Dublin City Council (DCC) has rejected a draft bylaw that called for buskers to be banned from the city's Temple Bar.
The draft bylaw was deleted from proposals to govern busking in the city, which are to be published today. The new series of proposed bylaws, which include requiring buskers to buy and annual permit, alongside time restrictions and the outright banning of knives, swords, saws, axes and flames in performances, will be made available for public consultation from today (Tuesday).
Under the proposed bylaws, performers would be required to pay €30 for an annual permit, with those using amplification expected to pay €60.
Buskers will be allowed to perform from 9am until 11pm, with those on Grafton Street allowed to continue until 1am on Saturday's and Sunday's.
Performers will also be restricted to no more than 2 hours in one spot, before having to move at least 250 metres away. They will also not be allowed to return to the same spot more than twice in a 24 hour period. Fines of up to €1,500 could be imposed on those breaking the bylaws.
A six week public consultation will be held into the new bylaws, after which councillors will be able to make new amendments.
A final version of the bylaws is expected next February.
