New Measures To Tackle Health Insurance Increases
New measures are to be introduced to address the rate of increases in private health insurance, Minister for Health, Leo Varadkar, has said.
The measures will be included in legislation due to be published tomorrow, the minister said and will see the level of stamp duty paid by insurers frozen from March 2015. In some areas the level will be reduced.
It is understood that Minister Varadkar said while health insurance costs might not come down because of the measures, he "believed" that it would see a stop to "double digit rises".
The minister added that the new legislation will also include a previously-announced plan for discounts in health insurance for those aged 18 to 25.
