IFA Urged To Call Off Planned Blockade

Farmers have been urged to call off planned protests outside meat factories this weekend.

The Irish Farmers' Association (IFA) announced that farmers would hold a two day blockade at meat factories across the State starting on Sunday 09 November.

The news came despite a planned meeting between the IFA and representatives of the meat industry to be held on Friday.

Meat Industry Ireland has called on farmers to call off their planned blockade, to reduce tensions and allow talks to be held. It is understood that the industry representatives have said that it is "questionable" if talks could proceed "constructively" if the IFA continued with its blockade.
