Farmers Proceed With Meat Factory Blockades
Farmers have gone ahead with a 48-hour blockade of meat factories despite the Irish Farmers' Association (IFA) holding talks with industry representatives.
Despite calls for the blockades to be called off, the IFA has proceeded with its planned blockades – however, it did reduce the number of protests from 29 to 14.
The farmers are protesting over beef prices, which they claim have caused their incomes to fall over the last 12 months. The IFA is calling for beef prices to be raised.
Meat Industry Ireland, which represents the factories, has said the blockade's are "unacceptable, irresponsible and will damage Ireland's reputation".
