Taoiseach To Attend Meeting Of British-Irish Council

The Taoiseach Enda Kenny is to meet with UK leaders on the Isle of Man today as part of the British-Irish Council.

The council was established as part of the Good Friday Agreement and involves representatives of all the UK's devolved administrations.

Mr Kenny will be joined by Northern Ireland's Deputy First Minister, Martin McGuinness, Britain's Secretary of State Theresa Villiers and Scotland's new First Minister Nicola Sturgeon.

The official remit of the meeting is to advance the digital agenda, however, it is understood that Mr Kenny, Mr McGuinness and NI Finance Minister Simon Hamilton, who is there on behalf of Peter Robinson, are to hold discussions on Northern Ireland.

Donald Tusk Rejects UK PM Call To Scrap Backstop
President of the European Council, Donald Tusk, has rejected a call from UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson to remove the Irish backstop from any Brexit deal. It is understood that Mr Johnson wrote to the EC President, opposing the backstop element of the Withdrawal Agreement.

British-Irish Council Underway In London
The Taoiseach, Enda Kenny is travelling to London today for a meeting of the British-Irish Council in Lancaster House. He will be accompanied by the Minister for Communications, Energy & Natural Resources, Mr Pat Rabbitte TD.
