Teachers 'Resolute' Over Strike Action
Teachers need "more movement" from Minister for Education Jan O'Sullivan, if next Tuesday's planned strike action is to be avoided.
ASTI President Phillip Irwin said it was "unfortunate it has come to this", but added that teachers would not budge on the issue.
Teachers are in dispute over revisions to the Junior Cycle, which would see them directly responsible for assessing 40% of a students final mark in place of an external examiner.
Speaking on RTÉ's Morning Ireland, Mr Irwin said the examination is an important "mid-point in a student's second-level career" and needs to be taken more seriously.
Teachers have been urged to call off proposed strike action, but Mr Irwin insisted that it would go ahead without significant steps from the Minister for Education.
