Weather Warning Increased To 'Orange'
A 'yellow' weather warning issued by Met Éireann has been increased to 'orange' ahead of expected strong winds and wintry showers.
Rain in Connacht and Ulster will spread southeastwards over Leinster and Munster this afternoon and evening, with strong southerly winds. Temperatures could reach 10 to 12 degrees, but it will turn colder after the rain clears.
Tuesday evening will be cold and it will become very windy later, especially in western and northern coastal counties. There will be clear spells and showers, with some wintry showers likely over Ulster and north Connacht, especially on hills. Temperatures could drop to 1 to 4 degrees.
Wednesday will be very windy with strong to gale force Westerly winds and some severe gusts, especially in the west and north. It will feel very cold and there will be showers of rain or hail, some falling as sleet or snow on hills in parts of Connacht and Ulster. Temperatures will peak at 4 to 8 degrees.
It will then become bitterly cold and windy on Wednesday night with clear spells and wintry showers.
Winds will moderate on Thursday morning but heavy rain will move in from the Atlantic during the day. There will also be a risk of snow over parts of Ulster and a risk of strong winds returning, especially to southern parts.
