O'Driscoll Receives Honorary Belfast Degree

Brian O'Driscoll is to be awarded an honorary degree by Queen's University Belfast today.

Considered one of Ireland's greatest ever sporting heroes, Mr O'Driscoll will be honoured for services to sport.

His career has included captaining Ireland, Leinster and the British & Irish Lions, 141 Test caps – 133 for Ireland and eight for the British and Irish Lions. O'Driscoll achieved 46 tries for Ireland and one try for the Lions in 2001, making him the highest try scorer of all time in Irish rugby.

He is also the eighth highest try scorer in rugby union history and the highest scoring centre of all time. O'Driscoll also holds the Six Nations record for most tries scored with 26 and has scored the most Heineken Cup tries of any Irishman.

Speaking ahead of receiving his degree, he said: "I am delighted to be receiving an honorary degree from Queen's University Belfast. Queen's has a great sporting tradition and as one of the UK and Ireland's leading Universities, they have always been at the forefront of sporting provision and opportunities.

"To receive this recognition from such a prestigious university is a considerable honour. I very much look forward to sharing this special occasion with students who will be graduating on the same day."
