Overcrowding In Emergency Depts Reach All Time High
The Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation (INMO), is once again calling for the cancellation of all planned routine admissions, to Ireland's acute hospitals, for a minimum of two weeks.
The INMO said the level of overcrowding, in the country's emergency departments, reached an all-time high, with 563 people on trolleys across the country.
The INMO, following extensive contacts with its members in ED departments over the weekend, found that the level of overcrowding has again resulted in the compromising of patient care.
INMO General Secretary Liam Doran said: "Today's figures, of 563 patients, admitted but being maintained on a trolley, are truly shocking and cannot be ignored by health service management, Department of Health and the whole of government.
"The immediate measures of cancelling routine admissions, opening beds and emergency recruitment must be initiated as every hour that passes further compromises patient welfare and the workload of frontline staff."
