Man Arrested After Four-Hour Stand-Off In Cork
A man has been arrested following a four-hour stand-off with garda in north Cork, according to a report by the Irish Times.
It is understood a woman, aged her twenties, called garda at about 02:00 on Wednesday morning, reporting an assault.
Garda discovered the woman had been badly assaulted at a house on Sandford Terrace in Mallow before managing to escape. The woman was taken to Cork University Hospital where her condition is described as serious but not life-threatening.
Garda went to the house and spoke to a man, also in his 20s, but it is understood he refused to leave the property.
A four-hour stand-off ensued, with the armed Regional Support Unit called to support local garda.
The man surrendered to officers at about 06:30 this morning.
He was arrested and is being held under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act.

A missing 24-year-old man has been found "safe and well". Alex Sherwin had been reported missing on Sunday, with garda issuing a public appeal for assistance. No information on Mr Sherwin's whereabouts have been released, but garda said the investigation had now ended. They thanked the public for their help.

Two Arrested Over Aidan Myers Murder
Two people have been arrested in connection with the murder of Aidan Myers, gardaí have confirmed. Mr Myers, 37, was killed by a gang who had attempted to hijack the car in which he was a passenger in Faughart, Co. Louth on December 12, 2006. He died after being attacked by a machete.

Woman Dies After Being Hit By Car In Dublin
An elderly woman who was hit by a car in Dublin has died in hospital. The incident occurred on the Navan Road at around 8.15am on Sunday, 04 September. The driver of the car was arrested and taken to Finglas Garda Station. He has been released and a file is being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

A man in his 20s was being questioned by officers at Tallaght Garda Station. He has since been released. A file is being prepared for the DPP.
