NBRU Ballot Members On Irish Rail Strike Action
The National Bus and Rail Union (NBRU) is to ballot its members over potential industrial action, claiming that Irish Rail failed to meet with unions to discuss driver compensation.
The NBRU claim that Iarnród Éireann has ignored requests for a "conciliation conference".
In a letter to the transport company, and published on its website, NBRU general secretary Dermot O'Leary wrote: "I am aware that the LRC wrote to you to request that the Company would attend a conciliation conference on the matter, in line with our agreed procedures; indeed I believe that Mr Damian Cannon from the Commission has even sent you a reminder(7thJanuary 2015) with regard to this particular case.
"It would appear however that the Company has taken a decision to ignore both our procedures and the role of the Labour Relations Commission in resolving Industrial Relations disputes.
"This is particularly regretful given that the LRC proposals (agreement) of the 3rd September 2014 provide for a conciliation conference on ‘past productivity’."
Mr O'Leary closes the letter by telling Irish Rail the union intends to ballot its members over possible industrial action should the company not take the opportunity for talks on the issue.
