Man Absconds From Loughan House
A prisoner has absconded from Loughan House open prison in Cavan.
Gardaí have said the man, who is in his 30s and from Tallaght in Dublin, escaped on Thursday (5 February) at around 2.30pm.
The prisoner, named in reports as John Paul Duncan, had been in custody since February 2010, after being caught in possession of €2.8m worth of drugs. He was due to be released in 2017. He had been serving his sentence in Castlerea Prison, Co Roscommon, but was transferred to Loughan House on Tuesday.
Gardaí have been informed of the incident, the Irish Prison Service confirmed.

Three More Prisoner Escape Co Cavan Open Prison
Three more inmates escaped from Loughan House open prison in Co Cavan, the same prison that convicted garda killer Martin McDermott walked out of in March of this year. The alarm was raised around 18:30 last night when the inmates were discovered missing and they were recaptured a short time later.

Michael McDermott Had Escaped From Same Prison Before
A report published last night revealed that gardai killer, Michael McDermott, had escaped from Loughan House a number of years before being transferred there again. The Director General of the Prison Service, Michael Donnellan, apologised for sending the convicted killer to the open prison.
