Manhunt Launched For Escaped Prisoner

A major manhunt is underway following the escape of a prisoner from Tallaght Hospital.

53-year-old Derek Brockwell was at the hospital being treated for diabetes when he made his escape.

It is understood two garda officers suffered stab wounds during an incident prior to the escape.

One officer needed emergency surgery for a stab wound to his stomach, while the other officer is said to have been stabbed in the hand and possibly the neck or face.

Brockwell, a UK national, was serving a seven-year sentence at Portlaoise Prison for armed robbery in 2012.

He is described as white, approximately 6'3" tall with brown hair and a broad build.

Interpol have been informed of his escape and all airports and harbours told to be on alert. The public have been told not to approach Mr Brockwell, who has been described as a "dangerous individual".
