Irish Prices 20% Higher Than EU Average
A new report from the Central Statistics Office (CSO) has revealed that Ireland's prices were 20% higher than the EU average in 2013.
The Measuring Ireland's Progress 2013 report however also shows that this figure is an improvement from the 2009 report, when Ireland's prices were 2nd highest, 26% above the European average.
The figures also show that Ireland had the lowest divorce rate – 0.6 per 1,000 population – while also having the highest fertility rate – 2.01 per 1,000.

Irish Cereals Have More Fat And Sugar Than Other Euro States
A report by the Consumer's Association of Ireland has shown children's breakfast cereals can be up to 40% sugar, and are on average higher than the same product in other countries. The survey found Kellogg's Coco Pops Coco Rocks contained almost 9% fat in Ireland, but only 1.3% fat in the Australian and New Zealand versions.

Ireland Has Highest Birth Rate According To ESRI Report
At 16.2 per 1,000 population, Ireland again reported the highest birth rate of any of the 27 EU countries. The second highest EU birth rate was reported for the UK at 12.9 per 1,000 population. The decline in the perinatal mortality rate continues. This rate is estimated at 6.1 per 1,000 live births and stillbirths in 2011 compared with 6.

A new report has revealed that carbon emissions in Ireland are among the highest in Europe, with Ireland beating the European average by 58%. According to the report, published by the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI), the increase is due to the greater use of high-carbon fuels including oil, coal and peat.

Rise In House Prices Outside Dublin
House prices outside Dublin have increased by 13 % over the past year, according to a report by property website Daft.ie. Home buyers are now typically paying €205,000, compared to €190,000 this time last year. Prices in urban areas of Cork, Galway and Limerick are rising at a rate of almost 20% a year.
