Man Charged Over Liverpool Attack On Irish Man
One of two men arrested on Sunday in connection with the assault of an Irish man in Liverpool has been charged, Merseyside Police have confirmed.
19-year-old Kyle Thompson, of Cockerell Street, Kirkdale, has been charged with assault and is due to appear today at Liverpool Magistrates' Court.
Another 19-year-old arrested over the assault was No Further Actioned (NFAd).
The men were detained yesterday by police in connection with the assault of a 24-year-old man in Liverpool city centre. They had presented themselves at a police station on Sunday and were subsequently arrested on suspicion of assault.
The 24-year-old victim is said to be in a "critical condition".
Emergency services were called at about 02:20 in the early hours of Sunday morning to the vicinity of Concert Square following reports a man had been assaulted.
Paramedics and police found a 24-year-old man with a head injury in the alleyway between Fleet Street and Seel Street near to The Walkabout bar and the night club Level.
The man, from Ireland, was taken to hospital. It is believed he was assaulted following an altercation with two other men in the vicinity.
Detective Inspector Matthew Kerr said: "This was a nasty attack on a man who had been enjoying a night out. He sustained serious injuries as a result of the attack and is currently in a critical condition in hospital.
"We are absolutely determined to find the people responsible but we need the public's help in piecing together what happened before and after the altercation.
"Concert Square was particularly busy at that time this morning and I would also appeal to anyone who was out and about at this time and think they saw anything to contact us with that information.
"I'd also like to reassure people that incidents like this are rare and neighbourhood officers will be increasing patrols in the area."
Anyone with information is asked to contact Merseyside Police on 0151 777 4065 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
