Ecstasy Currently Legal In Ireland
Possession of ecstasy, magic mushrooms and other "head shop" drugs are currently legal in Ireland.
The drugs have been legal following a decision of the Court of Appeal, which was ruling on the government's powers to control substances harmful to human health under Section 2 (2) of the Misuse of Drugs Act 1977.
However, the government will introduce new legislation within 24 hours to reclassify the drugs, making possession illegal.
The appeal court decision has had no impact on the sale, supply or importation of the drugs, which remains illegal.
