Surfer Rescued From Base Of Cliffs Of Moher

A surfer was rescued from the shore at the base of the Cliffs of Moher, Co Clare after becoming stranded on Saturday.

It is understood that the alarm was raised with the surfer failed to return at about 17:00 on Saturday and the RNLI lifeboat from the Aran islands was launched along with a rescue helicopter from Sligo.

Reports reveal that the surfer, who had gotten into difficulty in the water, managed to get himself to the shore at the base of the 700ft cliff.

The lifeboat was unable to reach the man so the rescue helicopter was used to winch him to safety and he was taken to University Hospital Galway.
