Cork City Council Meet In Private After Protesters Force Abandonment
Cork City Council have met in private, behind locked doors, after two previous meetings had to be abandoned.
Anti-water charge protesters forced the council to abandon two previous meetings, when they stormed the council chamber and refused to leave.
The council met on Monday night behind locked doors, with security guards on duty. It is understood that some councils raised concerns about holding council meetings in private, but recognised that the safety of those who attend meetings had to be considered.
Councillors will aim to figure out new public access arrangements for the next full council meeting.

€60m Private Hospital Gets Go-Ahead
A new €60m private hospital proposed for Ennis has been given the go-ahead. On Thursday Ennis Town Council granted permission for the 97-bed hospital within the 19th-century protected structure that housed the former Our Lady’s Psychiatric Hospital on the northern outskirts of Ennis, Co Clare.

Report On Ireland's Human Rights Record Published
The publication of the Government’s National Report on Ireland’s domestic human rights record as part of the United Nations (UN) Human Rights Council Universal Periodic Review (UPR) process has been announced. The report was prepared with the assistance of an interdepartmental working group chaired by the Department of Justice and Equality.

Cowen Faces EU Leaders On Lisbon
Taoiseach Brian Cowen is to face a series of meetings with European leaders on Wednesday on the Irish position regarding the Lisbon Treaty. The meetings come ahead of a crucial European Council meeting next week, and will focus on finding a solution following Ireland's rejection of the Lisbon Treaty referendum last June.
