Seven Units Needed To Tackle Kildare Hotel Fire

Seven units from Kildare fire services were called to tackle a blaze at Westgrove Hotel on Tuesday night.

Dublin Fire Brigade said that the fire was reported at about 21:40 and guests at the Kildare hotel were evacuated during the operation.

The fire services said that the fire appears to have begun in the plant room just off the leisure centre. An investigation into the cause of the fire is underway.

There were no reports of any injuries.

Mountjoy Prison Cell Fire
A fire broke out in a cell at Dublin's Mountjoy Prison on Thursday night, according to reports. It is understood that a prisoner had set fire to a cell. However, it is believed that prison staff and fire crews were able to contain the fire quickly. No-one was injured in the incident.

Public Reminded Of Dangers Of Wildfires
The Department of Culture, Heritage and the Gaeltacht has issued a reminder to the public, particularly to land-owners, of the dangers posed by wildfires and their impact on wildlife, forestry and communities. It is an offence under the Wildlife Acts to burn growing vegetation between March 1st and August 31st.

Minister Welcomes HIQA Report
Minister Varadkar has responded to the recently published HIQA report. The report involved a major review of the emergency ambulance service and was critical in a number of areas. In some control centres, staffing levels were found to be 'unsafe', while the fleet is ageing.
