IPU Warns Parents Not To Give Children Under 12 Codeine-Containing Medicines
The Irish Pharmacy Union (IPU) is warning parents not to treat children below 12 years old with codeine-containing medicines for coughs and colds because of the risk of serious side-effects.
In addition, the use of codeine for coughs and colds is not recommended in adolescents between 12 and 18 years who already have problems with their breathing.
Bernard Duggan, Pharmacist and Honorary Treasurer of the IPU, said: "The use of codeine for coughs and colds is prohibited in children below 12 years of age and is not recommended in children and adolescents between 12 and 18 who have problems with breathing due to the risk of serious side-effects. Coughs and colds are generally self-limiting conditions and the evidence that codeine is effective at treating cough is limited in children."

Missing Children Safe In North
Four children who have been missing from their home in Ardee since Thursday have been found. The children, ranging in age from one to 12, are safe and well while a 30-year-old man and a woman have been arrested. It is understood the children were found by the PSNI in Newcastle, Co Down at around 1pm on Sunday.

12 Years For Double Rapist
A 34-year-old man, who drugged and raped two women after luring them to his home in Dublin, has been jailed for 12 years for. Kapil Garg, a computer specialist originally from India but living in Whitefriar Place in Dublin 8, had pleaded not guilty but a jury found him guilty of the offences, which took place in his rented room in July 2011.

31-year-old Aidan Finnegan has been jailed for 12 years for the killing of a lifelong friend. Mr Finnegan of Whitestown Avenue, Hartstown in Blanchardstown had pleaded guilty to the manslaughter of Dara McCormack, 24, just over six years ago.
