SF Deputy Leader Stands By Decision To Exercise Constitutional Right To Privilege
Sinn Féin Deputy Leader Mary Lou McDonald is refusing to apologise over her decision to exercise her constitutional right to privilege in the Dáil.
Deputy McDonald said: "On 3rd December 2014, I exercised my constitutional right to privilege in the Dáil to give voice to very serious allegations made in respect of off-shore accounts and political obstruction. The source of these allegations is a briefing dossier prepared by authorised officers who are both reputable and credible.
"I set out for the Committee on Procedure and Privileges in very clear terms my reasons for exercising my Dáil privilege which was in good faith and the public interest. However, I have received from them only dismissive responses.
"I have written to the Taoiseach on the allegations contained in the dossier calling on him to examine the matters fully. It is inconceivable that the Taoiseach and the government have not moved to institute an investigation and serve the interests of the Irish people fully."

Privilege Days Proposal Rejected
Government proposals to reduce privilege days off for civil servants has been rejected by an arbitration board. It had been argued that revising the system would increase productivity saving an additional €4.6m a year. However, the board highlighted that the employer had not demonstrated savings consistent with the required reform.

April 1st Mahon Challenge Granted
There's to be an April Fool's Day challenge by the Taoiseach into aspects of the Mahon Tribunal's enquiries about his own financial affairs. The case will be heard by the High Court on 1 April by a divisional or three-judge High Court convened to hear the action.

Taoiseach Bertie Ahern is to face further questions about his personal finances at the Mahon Tribunal on Thursday. This, his third appearance at the tribunal in Dublin Castle, will be a two-day hearing as Mr Ahern gives evidence regarding the highly publicised case.

Tánaiste Wants Referrendum On Same-Sex Marriage
Tánaiste Eamon Gilmore has said he would like to see a referendum on the issue of same-sex marriage "as soon as possible". Speaking on RTÉ's Morning Ireland, Mr Gilmore said marriage for gay people was a human right, adding that he would like to see a referendum on the the issue in the lifetime of this Dáil.
