SF Calls On Taoiseach To 'Stop Running' And Set By-Election Date
Sinn Féin has called on the Taoiseach to "stop running from the people" and set a date for the Carlow & Kilkenny by-election.
SF Councillor Kathleen Funchion said: "It is insulting to the people of Carlow and Kilkenny that the government has still not set a date for the by-election.
"Phil Hogan is well settled in his cushy new position at the EU Commission but the constituency of Carlow and Kilkenny remains without its full complement of national representatives.
"A lot of people who I have met at the doors are under the impression that the by-election date has already been set for May 22nd to coincide with the Marriage Equality Referendum.
"While that is a natural assumption, it is not the case. The government has not set the date.
"The Taoiseach should announce a date for the by-election when the Dáil comes back from recess on Tuesday."
