Remains Found At Glasgow Farm In Search For Missing Irish Student

Police in Scotland searching for missing student Karen Buckley have uncovered human remains at a farm to the north of Glasgow.

Formal identification has not yet been made, but police have said that they believe the remains are those of the 24-year-old woman, from Mourneabbey, Co Cork, who went missing in the city in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Police have also reported that a 21-year-old man detained on Wednesday evening has now been formally arrested in connection with Ms Buckley's death.

He is due to appear before Glasgow Sheriff Court on Friday.

Police had launched a search operation on Sunday when friends of Ms Buckley reported her missing. She had not been seen since telling friends on a night out at Sanctuary nightclub in Glasgow city that she was going to the bathroom.

CCTV footage from outside the club captured the Cork woman speaking to a man, before walking off towards the city centre with him.

Police tracked down to the man shown with Ms Buckley in the CCTV footage. He is understood to have told police that they went to his city centre flat, and Ms Buckley left again at about 4am to walk home.

On Tuesday, police found a handbag belonging to Ms Buckley in a nearby park, and police divers were called in to assist in the search operation.

Police had also appealed for information on a car believed to have been spotted on several occasions near farmhouses to the north of Glasgow.

Police then moved their search to a farm on the outskirts of Milngavie, six miles from the city. Human remains were uncovered on Wednesday evening.

Ms Buckley's family, who travelled from Cork to Glasgow on Monday, have been informed of the discovery.
