Garda Appeal For Witnesses To M6 Motorway Crash

Gardaí in Co Galway have appealed for witnesses to a single vehicle road accident on the M6 motorway at the weekend.

A red Saab was travelling on the westbound motorway at Ballymabilla, Loughrea, on Saturday 18 April at about 18:20, when the car lost control, veering across the road and colliding with the central median barrier.

A female passenger aged in her mid-60s remains in a serious condition in hospital following the accident. Three other people in the car, another woman, also aged in her mid-60s, and two men, aged in their late 60s, were treated for minor injuries at University College Hospital Galway.

Investigating Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to the collision or anyone who was traveling along the M6 motorway at Ballymabilla between 6.10pm and 6.30pm Saturday 18 April 2015 to contact them at Loughrea Garda Station on 091 842870, The Garda Confidential Line 1800 666111 or any Garda Station.

Topaz To Create Over 100 New Jobs
A total of 110 new jobs are to be created by fuel retailer Topaz. The service station is to open two new facilities in Dublin and Laois. Half of Drivers Stop On Motorway To Use Phone
Half of Irish drivers have broken the highway code by stopping on the motorway to use their phone, according to a survey published on Monday. AA Ireland and the Road Safety Authority (RSA) said they are reminding all road-users that it is breach of the code to stop on the hard-shoulder except in the case of an emergency.

Garda Injured In Cork
A garda has been injured while on duty in Cork on Monday night. The sergeant has been treated in hospital but has been discharged. He was bringing a patient, aged in his 20s, to the Mercy University Hospital just after 6pm. The garda is based at Gurranabraher Garda Station.

Two Arrested In €100k Drug Haul
Two men have been arrested following a €100,000 drug haul in Tipperary. The men were arrested and the drugs were seized after police attempted to stop a car at Pouldine, Thurles. The car failed to stop but was successfully halted a short distance away on the fly over of the Cork/Dublin motorway.

Fianna Fáil is calling on the Minister for Justice to consider re-opening Rush Garda Station. Senator and Seanad Spokesperson for Justice Clifford-Lee said: "Rush is a large and growing urban area with a surrounding rural hinterland.
