FSAI Serve Enforcement Orders To Food Firms
Seven Closure Orders and one Prohibition Order were served to food businesses in April according to the Food Safety Authority of Ireland (FSAI).
It is understood the Closure Orders were issued by environmental health officers in the Health Service Executive (HSE), while a Prohibition Order was issued by sea-fisheries protection officers in the Sea-Fisheries Protection Authority.
Food businesses affected included Joe's Family Butchers in Meath, Hartley's Fish & Food in Waterford and Star Pizza in Limerick.
Dr Bernard Hegarty, Director of Services at FSAI said: "Time and time again, there are instances where food businesses are potentially putting their customers’ health at risk by not complying with their legal obligations for food safety and hygiene.
"Food businesses must recognise that the legal onus is on them to make sure that the food they serve is safe to eat. This requires ongoing compliance with food safety and hygiene standards."
