Text Of Proposed All-Party Motion On Ballymurphy Massacre Complete

The government has confirmed it has completed a text of a proposed all-party motion on the Ballymurphy massacre.

It is to be circulated to other party leaders for agreement.

Sinn Féin President Gerry Adams TD has welcomed the Taoiseach's announcement.

Mr Adams said: "Early last year the Taoiseach volunteered to bring forward an all-party Oireachtas motion in support of the Ballymurphy families. I welcomed this. Some months later I raised the matter again and on 1 July 2014 the Taoiseach indicated that the Government was working on a comprehensive motion, which would be discussed with the opposition leaders. Nothing happened.

"In February of this year the Taoiseach said that he would have the motion for March. Mr Kenny visited the area that month and spoke to the families.

"Yesterday I raised the issue of the Ballymurphy motion again and the Taoiseach confirmed that the government has now completed a text of a proposed all-party motion and that he will circulate this with the other party leaders for agreement."
