Council To Consider Plans For New Taxi Ranks In Dublin
Dublin City Council is to set out plans to add over 30 new taxi ranks throughout the city.
Fianna Fáil Councillors supported the proposals which are to be considered today.
Fianna Fáil Leader on Dublin City Council, Councillo Paul McAuliffe, said: "Taxi drivers are being moved on by Gardaí policing overflowing ranks. The existing rank locations are insufficient and awkward for both drivers and passengers. These new proposals will go some way to accommodating the number of taxis in the city and addressing the city centre traffic caused by the LUAS cross city works.
"During the consultation process held in advance of the bye-laws being finalised, 43 submissions were considered with a significant number calling for additional ranks or the relocation of existing ranks.
"It is clear that there is a strong demand for more ranks in the city to cater for the level of demand from Dubliners and tourists, to ease the pressure on existing ranks, and to make it easier for passengers to get a taxi from anywhere in the city centre."
The report proposes new permanent ranks on Baggot Street Lower, Barrow Street, Burgh Quay, Cavendish Row, Eccles Street, Hanover Quay, Marlborough Place and Silloge Road.
