Found Newborn In Care Of Tusla

Gardaí investigating the discovery of a newborn baby last Friday have received a number of calls following an appeal for information.

Officers issued an appeal on Monday asking for information about the child found on Steelstown Road, which is a side road near Blackchurch Inn in Rathcoole.

The location of where the baby was found is described as "highly unusual", and "not somewhere you'd abandon a child if you wanted someone to find it and it's also not the kind of place you'd leave her if you didn't want people to find her."

A report by the Irish Times said that a garda officer described the situation as "baffling".

Tusla, the child and family agency, has been awarded an interim care order for the child, who is said to need "ongoing treatment".

The agency has also appealed to Dublin's family court to allow for a DNA sample to be taken from the child to assist garda in their search for the mother.
