Fine Gael 'Disappointed' By NRA Toll Plan
Fine Gael has said that it is "disappointed" by the National Roads Authority calling for additional tolls on the M50.
Dublin West Senator, Catherine Noone, said she was disappointed that "the tired idea of multi-point tolling has been set forward by the NRA yet again as the solution that nobody asked for".
She claimed that the plan would "punish workers" who are already 'paying per km' in fuel taxes.
Senator Noone added: "The NRA, in its own report, suggests that measures such as the varying of the tolls based on peak times could be implemented in conjunction with multi-point tolling systems. This should be done now, in the same way as it’s done for the Port Tunnel. Surely there are ways of reducing tailbacks and congestion without the all-too-easy mantra of ‘let’s charge more’. Demand management measures do need to be considered, however we need to take a holistic approach to the problem."
