Planned Bus Strike Called Off
A planned strike at Dublin Bus and Bus Éireann has been called off.
Members from SIPTU and the National Bus and Rail Union (NBRU) were expected to strike tomorrow, Friday, and Saturday 16 May and also 29, 30 and 31 May.
However following talks with the Labour Relations Commission the strikes have been cancelled.
General Secretary of the NBRU, Dermot O'Leary, said: "We went into these set of discussions with a clear focus on what was required to address the concerns of our members as part of the original agreed inter-locked agenda; those concerns included the security of employment in both companies and the future in terms of seeing beyond 2019.
"The proposals include a commitment from the employer, supported by the department that any legacy costs which may arise from the tendering process will not be borne by the employees, this commitment along with commitments on current terms / conditions and no compulsory transfer of staff will be incorporated into a Registered Employment Agreement (REA).
"Both companies growth strategy will be supported by Government, there is also a commitment to immediately establish a process to deal with our concerns with the legislation covering future contract awards, this will help to underpin the Ministers commitment to having a strong Dublin Bus and Bus Éireann into the future."
