Urgent Action Is Needed To Help Sheep Farmers - McMullan
Concerns have been raised over sheep farmers dealing with the falling lamb prices as a result of EU regulations.
Sinn Féin is calling for "urgent action" to help the struggling sheep farmers and has proposed an immediate meeting with counterparts in the Dáil to discuss voluntary labelling to help the sheep farmers.
MLA Oliver McMullan said: "This week I met with representatives of the National Sheep Association who made a presentation to the agriculture committee expressing their concern about the price of lamb, which has fallen by as much as £20 per head.
"Unionist members of the committee voted against the proposal and SDLP members abstained claiming that a meeting between the two committees has been scheduled for September.
"I believe this issue is too important to wait until September and that view is shared by the representatives of the National Sheep Association. "
