Biomass Power Station To Be Developed In Mayo
Mayo Renewable Power has confirmed it has secured money to build its wood chip biomass power station in Killala, County Mayo.
The 42.5MW Electricity Generating Station and Biomass Fuel Processing Facility will cost €180m and will qualify for Ireland's Renewable Energy Feed-In Tariff (REFIT) programme.
Michelle Mulherin, Fine Gael TD for Mayo, welcomed the news.
She said: "I am delighted their relentless efforts have come to fruition after a final push this weekend and I was delighted to have supported them in every way I could throughout.
"Construction on the project will begin immediately and it is expected that the plant will be in operation by mid-2017. This project, alongside the transatlantic fibre optic cable to be built by Christmas in which Microsoft is a substantial investor, can have a transformative effect on the North Mayo economy bringing investment and jobs."

Woman Dies After Mayo Mountain Fall
A woman who fell while climbing in the Mweelrea mountains in Co Mayo yesterday evening has died. Search teams in the Mweelrea Mountains in Co Mayo were called to the scene where the woman, who is in her 30s, fell on Ben Bury peak at around 6.30pm yesterday evening.

€100m Mayo Generating Station Planned
Main contractor John Sisk and Son Limited has been appointed to undertake construction on a new nominal 50 megawatt electricity generating chp station, combusting biomass material (wood & herbaceous) as well as a small proportion of fuel oil for boiler start-up.

Eco-Hiltons For Ireland
The Hilton group is set to build a chain of eco hotels in Ireland. The project, which is UK and Ireland wide, has just seen the completion of its first environmentally friendly hotel in Luton, England. Named The Hilton Garden Inn, the £16m scheme consists of a renewable energy biomass boiler and insulation from prefabricated units.
