Home Carer Groups Urged To Apply For Share Of Funding

Home carer groups have been urged to apply for a share of new funding announced by the government.

Making the call, Fine Gael TD for Louth, Peter Fitzpatrick, said: "Home carers provide a vital service to families and to communities. We are particularly mindful of this during Carers Week which starts today. The services they provide are extremely valuable and often home carers lack training and other supports."

€1m in funding has been made available through the Dormant Accounts Fund to provide training, information and related support services for home carers, and will be managed by Pobal.

Applications from interested groups will be accepted from 01 July until 22 July.

Pobal will also be providing a series of four regional pre-application information meetings, due to take place this month.
