Nurses And Midwives Defer Beaumont Strike Action

Sinn Féin has welcomed the news that the Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation (INMO) have agreed to defer industrial action at Beaumont Hospital.

Dublin City Councillor, Denise Mitchell, said: "I welcome the news that industrial action has been deferred on the basis that a number of actions will take place.

"Action was due to commence tomorrow because of issues over the recruitment of nurses at the Emergency Department.

"Pressure borne by the INMO has resulted in an increase in staff to be provided for in the coming weeks.

"We all know the huge strain staff at the hospital is under. Front line services have been cut to the bone by this Labour/Fine Gael Government.

"Management have now agreed commencement dates for new staff and I hope this will be the first of many recruitment processes in the hospital.

"Our hospitals the length and breadth of the country are severely understaffed. This puts lives at risk."
