Minister Howlin Accused Of 'Stalling On Essential Drainage Works'
Minister for Public Expenditure and Reform, Brendan Howlin, has been accused of stalling on essential drainage works on the river Clare.
Fianna Fáil's Éamon Ó Cuív said that he had become "increasingly frustrated" by the delay.
"It has been 18 months since the Commissioner for Public Works submitted the plan to the Department of Public Expenditure and Reform and to date there has been no progress on the issue," Deputy Ó Cuív said.
"I am becoming increasingly frustrated at the lack of movement on this drainage scheme. I have submitted numerous Parliamentary Questions to establish when the works would be approved but Minister Howlin has refused to give any firm commitments.
"Despite being told that a decision on the scheme would be made 'in the coming weeks' back in April, the latest response from the Minister now claims that a decision is "expected shortly". The initial plan was submitted to Minister Howlin's department in November 2013. These delays are completely unacceptable."
