Marriage Equality For Citizens Across Ireland - Adams

Sinn Féin President Gerry Adams has said it is time that citizens in same sex relationships across Ireland had marriage equality.

In May, Ireland legalised gay marriage by a majority vote.

Speaking at a Pride Parade in Dublin on 27 June, Mr Adams said: "Today we should celebrate the success of the 'Yes Equality' campaign in last month's marriage equality referendum.

"We have come a long way from this time last year when I was still calling for the government to set a date.

"Thousands of people in same sex relationships across this state now have the right to marry."

He added that the nation must now must look towards 'breaking down the barriers' for marriage equality in the North.

"It is the time that citizens in same sex relationships right across the island of Ireland had the right to marry."
