€80 Announced For Urban Centres Across Ireland
A total of €80 million has been secured for local authorities across Ireland under the Designated Urban Centres Grants Scheme 2014-2020.
Minister of the Environment, Community and Local Government, Paudie Coffey, launched the scheme at the House of Waterford Crystal, laying out how the Scheme will enable investments in Irish urban centres for the period 2014-2020. It will involve European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) funding of approximately €40 million and matching funding from the local authorities.
Minister Coffey said: "There is a strong correlation between healthy and vibrant urban centres and the creation of an attractive environment and enterprise development within the wider region. Strong urban centres enable their regions to realise their potential in attractiveness for business investment for Foreign Direct Investment for talent and for tourism and to create conducive and attractive locations for investment and for people to live and work in.
"This investment in sustainable urban development recognises our cities and towns as the engines of the regional economy. This scheme will provide grant assistance to designated local authorities for urban capital projects. I call on local authorities, in the designated Gateways and Hubs, to avail of this opportunity for ERDF assistance that is being made available for sustainable urban development in their areas".
