INMO Expresses 'Grave Concerns' Over Patient Safety At St Raphael's Centre

The Irish Nurses Midwives Organisation (INMO) said it has "grave concerns" over patient safety at St Raphael's Centre in Celbridge, Co Kildare.

The INMO is to hold a meeting today, 04 September to discuss its concern over governance, staffing levels and adequate training for support staff.

It is part of a wider INMO Campaign for Excellence in Intellectual Disability Services, which will be formally launched on 15 September.

Thee concerns include poor staffing levels, and an inappropriate skill-mix, resulting in a lack of quality of care for residents of St. Raphael's.

Industrial Relations Officer, Derek Reilly said: "The INMO is demanding an immediate meeting with management who have responsibility for St Raphael’s in Celbridge. The long standing concerns of our members, with regard to the needs of service users, are not being addressed. Our members, as registered professionals, have an obligation to speak out for their clients and this meeting is the beginning of that process. Our members must advocate for those who cannot speak up for themselves."
