Govt Consistently Failing Health Targets - SF
The government has been accused of "consistently failing" to meet targets set in the health service.
Sinn Féin health spokesperson Caoimhghín Ó Caoláin strongly criticised the government for its health policy. He said they have not released funds that could have very tangible benefits for patients in Irish hospitals and on waiting lists.
"Further reports today on the shambles that this government has created in the health service show that Fine Gael/Labour is failing those in the hospital system. Only 25% of funds needed by the HSE to ensure that patients only spend 18 months on waiting lists have been released and this was pumped into the private sector in the typical fashion of this government," Deputy Ó Caoláin said.
"Fine Gael/Labour are ever quick to use public money to buy a headline and pretend they are solving a problem. We saw this last July when €25 million was used to take patients off lists; then the money dried up and the lists grew once more.
"The Minister says that there is nothing to see here, using a flimsy excuse that the HSE have revised their own figures downwards. I find it hard to believe that they would have done so by 75%. The government smoke and mirrors is not doing anything to help those in need of care in our hospital system. The Minister needs to cut out the bluff and secure funds to get patients off lists and into procedures that can both save and enrich lives."
