Call For Intervention Over Dublin Apartments Safety Failings
Sinn Féin councillor Chris Andrews has called for an immediate intervention in the situation faced by Dublin residents over safety issues.
It is understood inhabitants of the Longboat Quay apartments are facing a €4 million bill or possible evacuation due to fire safety failings in their building.
Approximately 900 people live in the complex in Dublin's docklands.
Cllr Andrews said solutions have to found urgently to address the problem.
He said: "There have been serious question marks raised in relation to building standards in much of the Docklands area over the past number of years, particularly in developments that were constructed as social and affordable housing, which the Longboat Quay development contains a sizeable number of.
"The demand now being placed on residents to foot bills upwards of €18,000 each to fund remedial works is entirely unrealistic and there must be immediate intervention from all of the stakeholders here to find a solution to the problems identified, including from Dublin City Council and the Dublin Docklands Development Authority, as well as the Minister for the Environment."
