Irish Scientist Jointly Awarded Nobel Prize
Irish scientist Professor William C Campbell has been jointly awarded a Nobel Prize for his work to prevent infection by a parasite which is common around the world.
William C Campbell and his colleague Satoshi Omura were jointly awarded half the prize.
The other half of the prize went to Chinese scientist Youyou Tu for her discoveries concerning a new therapy against malaria.
Minister for Health Leo Varadkar said: "This is a great day for Irish science and I want to congratulate Prof Campbell for jointly receiving the prestigious Nobel Prize. It's a magnificent achievement for him and his colleagues. Prof Campbell's work on developing the drug Avermectin, which combats the roundworm parasite and other organisms, is already bringing benefits to people across the planet."

Irish companies in the seed, start-up and early stages of business development, who are seeking to ramp up their funding, are being urged to enter InterTradeIreland's Seedcorn Investor Readiness competition for the chance to win a share of a €280,000 cash prize fund, with the overall winner taking away €100k.

National Lottery Statistics Show €90m In Unclaimed Winnings
The latest figures released by the National Lottery have revealed that some €90 million in prizes and jackpots have gone unclaimed over the past five years. Nearly €17 million in prizes went uncollected last year alone and remains in the accounts of the National Lottery.
