Train Drivers To Go On Strike During Morning Rush Hour

Train drivers at Irish Rail, who are members of unions SIPTU and NBRU, have announced they are to go on strike for two days.

The drivers are to take industrial action on Friday 23 October and Friday 06 November.
They will stop work for a period of three hours during the morning rush hour.

General Secretary Dermot O'Leary said: "The work stoppages, which will affect Dart, Commuter and Inter-city services, will take place between 06.00 and 09.00 on Friday the 23 October and Friday the 06 November.

"It is unfortunate that an arbitrary decision by management at the company to ignore a Labour Relations brokered agreement to discuss previous productivity contributions by drivers has led to a situation where the travelling public will be discommoded.

"Forcing staff into a scenario whereby they feel they have no other option but to take industrial action is no way to practice employee relations, the resolution to this issue lies with those within the company who have chosen conflict over adherence to agreements, responsibility to the taxpayer, their passengers and staff should be the dominant feature in addressing any industrial relations issue at the company."
