Garda Tony Golden Killed In Lough Shooting

Fianna Fáil Leader Micheál Martin has expressed his deepest condolences after the murder of Garda Tony Golden in Co Louth.

Garda Golden, 36, was killed after responding to a call of a domestic disturbance at a house in Omeath at around 6.30pm on Sunday.

He and a woman were both shot dead by another man who later took his own life.

Mr Martin described the incident as "shocking".

He said: "I want to extend my deepest condolences to the family of the officer who has lost his life in this terrible incident. My thoughts are with his colleagues and friends in the gardaí and the Garda Commissioner Nóirín O'Sullivan.

"Unfortunately this is not the first such tragedy to be visited up the Gardaí in Louth in recent years. Less than three years ago Detective Garda Adrian Donohoe was gunned down in January 2013 at the Lordship Credit Union. I know the thoughts and prayers of communities right across the country are with all members of An Garda Síochána at this difficult time."
