State Funeral Of Garda Anthony Golden Takes Place

The State Funeral of Garda Anthony Golden will take place today, followed by a private burial at St Paul's, Heynestown.

Mr Golden will be removed from St Oliver Plunkett Church in Blackrock, arriving for Funeral Mass at midday.

The family of Mr Golden has requested that the cemetery is strictly private. A photographer has been nominated to take photographs which will be pooled and made available.

Gardaí have also issued information of their traffic management plan during todays services.

The following roads in the Blackrock area, County Louth will be closed from 10am:

• Old Golf Links Road, Blackrock from the junction with the Dublin Road 

• Sandy Lane, Blackrock from the junction with Rock Road to junction with Main Street

• Sea front from junction of Coast Road/Rock Road through Blackrock to Seafield Road junction

• Partial closure on Rock Road between Old Golf Links Road & Sandy Lane junctions for duration of procession

• Traffic & parking restrictions on routes are highlighted in blue on map provided. 

Members of the public travelling to the funeral are urged to use the highlighted public car parks. 

The above road closures will commence at 10am and are expected to reopen at approximately 2pm.

Former Missionaries Teachers Charged With Indecent Assault Of Pupils
Three former teachers of a missionary order boarding school have been charged with the indecent assault of a number of pupils over a 20 year period. The charges come at the end of a two year investigation carried out by gardaí, following allegations of abuse at Coláiste Chroí Naofa in Carrignavar, Co Cork from the late 1960s on.

NRA Call For Introduction Of Additional Tolls On M50
The National Roads Authority (NRA) has called for the introduction of more tolls on the M50 in an effort to address gridlock on the countries busiest road. The NRA said that "effective measures" were needed to address congestion on the M50, and that traffic control decisions needed to be "taken now".

N5 Open To The Public
After 16 months of construction and an investment of €26 million, the N5 Longford Bypass opens 2 months ahead of schedule. Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport, Leo Varadkar, welcomed the opening of the N5 Longford Bypass. "The bypass will dramatically improve the town environment for residents, traders and the public in general.

Railway Museum Plan Runs Out Of Steam
A major tourism development that would have newly expanded an existing rail museum in West Clare has been rejected by An Bord Pleanála. The official body said that plans for the road and rail were turned down on road safety grounds.

Toll Prices Dropped At Port Tunnel
Toll prices at Dublin Port Tunnel are to drop to a minimum of €3 from January 1. The National Roads Authority (NRA) has announced that it is scrapping the current three-tier pricing system and replacing it with a two-tier system.
