New Midlands Greenway Officially Opened
Taoiseach Enda Kenny has officially opened the new €4m Midlands Greenway.
Fine Gael's Gabrielle McFadden described the new greenway as a "wonderful asset", that will open the region up to more visitors and boost local economies.
Deputy McFadden said: "Securing the initial funding of €4m last year to help drive the project was one of my first achievements as a TD and I am very proud to see the project now coming to fruition. This greenway will undoubtedly open up this region to more tourists and have spin-offs for local economies.
"The Midlands Greenway is already proving popular and I am convinced that this cycleway/walkway route will attract tourists from all over the world. I also believe increased tourism activity along this route will create spin-off jobs for local economies.
"I was delighted that the Taoiseach came to officially unveil the greenway. He is an avid cyclist and immediately took up the offer when I invited him to open it.
"I would also like to pay tribute to all the stakeholders involved in the Midlands Greenway project, not least Westmeath County Council and Moate Action Group which ensured a very successful launch."
