BOI Customers Urged To Go Elsewhere
Bank of Ireland (BOI) customers are being encouraged to take their business elsewhere after the bank announced new transaction limits.
The bank announced that shortly customers will no longer be able to withdraw less than €700 or lodge less than €3,000 at the counter in some of its branches.
Instead, consumers will have to use ATMs or electronic banking.
Labour Senator Marie Maloney said it is "disgraceful conduct" by the bank.
She said: "Clearly they don't appreciate the value of customers with smaller accounts. Given how much support the bank got from the taxpayer in recent years, this is no way to treat customers.
"I am encouraging any Bank of Ireland customer who gets their Social Welfare paid into their bank account to now consider transferring that payment to their local post office or credit union where they will get personal attention and a customer-friendly service.
"This will have serious impact upon many elderly people who weren't raised in an era of technology and therefore may not be au fait with ATMs or e-banking facilities."
